At the end of the day for me at least this is a day pack. My loadout consisted of a...
Also this should really be 4.5 stars. There is room for minor improvements and I would hope to see that in time.
1. DJI Mini 2 with controller and 3 batteries
2. DJI Neo 2 with FPV goggles, motion controller and 5 batteries.
3. Insta360 X5 with extra batteries and selfie stick. The Insta also had a cage to protect it.
4. Fenix CL27R for backup light if we were out late.
5. Fluids.
Total weight was just under 27lbs. I'm a big guy so it's not a deal breaker for me. The number 1 thing to do for this to work for you is to learn how to fit and adjust a pack before you try to carry this. Ideally you want a 70/30 or 60/40 split between your hips and shoulders with your hips taking the majority of the weight. If you carry this 100% on your shoulders a 6 hour hike could be bad. We hiked for about 3 hours and it was fine. No, it's not going to be as comfortable as a high end hiking pack but none of those are made for carrying equipment like this.
Pros: Extremely good for carrying photo gear and drones. It's a purpose built pack so you will sacrifice for the ease of carrying your equipment. The magic arms are extremely useful but I would recommend having a remote for your action camera to avoid having to manual turn on recordings. I'm a big guy (about 285) and this pack fit with plenty of room to adjust out if need be.
Cons: These are not really cons but some things to consider when making more accessories or new versions.
1. Consider a Carbon Fiber option for the magic arms. This would allow the arms to extend longer with less bounce when they are clocked forward or backward.
2. While the pockets and molle are cool on the waist belt they are positioned in a way that even for smaller wasted people clocks the pockets in an awkward position. Maybe consider clocking them about 2 inches forward or have an option for this. I used this pocket for my wallet because I knew I'd never have to reach for it.
3. Yes.. it's heavy. Not really a con given what the pack is designed for but weight reduction options would help. Things like an optional Carbon Fiber frame and Magic arms would stop the weight quite a bit. The battery is heavy.. but worth it. However if this additional 6-7lbs is going to be too much I would recommend going with the 100W or perhaps the non battery pack option. Also, if you want to reduce weight you can ditch one of the magic arms if you're not using it. That's nearly a pound of weight right there.
4. Needs an option for a dry pouch. If this pack is truly going to be used as a day hiking pack you need a dry pouch to either keep your fluids in or equipoment in because cold bottles of water will condensate in the same compartment as your electronics. I had to compartmentalize a bit to keep that from happening. The good news is the pack is semi insulated. Maybe even consider a "cold box" that can be slipped in modularly to store cold drinks. Long hikes need fluids so this pack needs to be able to keep that stuff separete. Another option is to make that laptop sleeve easy to convert to a hydration pouch with an openening to route your bite valve.
Who is this pack really for (in my opinion)?: I think the people who will get the best use out of this is drone pilots or photographers/vloggers who are brining lots of equipment into the field. As long as you are prepared to carry a hefty pack you should be fine but If you plan to bring a couple of drones, and a DSLR/Mirrorless camera with a tripod and a bag full of professional grade lenses you'r going to clear 40lbs pretty quick. This pack is 100% capable as long as you are. Overall I have no complaints. If there are days I find the battery too heavy.. I'll either use the lighter battery or just swap out the extra compartment in place of the battery.
Build quality: It's built well... very well.
Finally Customer Service: Coalax staff is really responsive and very cool. They helped me out when I had issues with my discount code. Thank you
If you're looking for a backpack that you can run your starlink mini on while hiking, this is the bag for you.
I was searching for months for a backpack that I could run my starlink on and this is the first bag that was promoted on google. I never trust the promoted ads but I made of note of the Lancer from Coalax. After searching and not finding anything remotely similar, I decided to go for it.
The bag is exactly what I was looking for! I'm excited to start livestreaming my hikes through the US National Parks.
I love the first Coalax back pack I purchased and have used it quite often. I decided to purchase the Ranger and use it at work. I work for a railroad and my “ Ranger” will be riding along with me on the trains.
I received the Lancer100 TSA Compliant Travel Camera Backpack with 100W Power yesterday, and I’m genuinely impressed with the level of innovation and thought that went into this bag. The design feels extremely modern, practical, and clearly made by people who actually understand photographers, travelers, and content creators.
One of the standout features for me is the clever incorporation of the magic hands/selfie stick mounting system, which adds a lot of versatility for creators on the go. The rigid exoskeleton design gives the backpack excellent protection while still looking sleek and professional. I also appreciate the waterproofing and durable construction, which makes it feel ready for real travel and outdoor use.
The internal layout is another major highlight — everything feels well planned and modular, with smart use of space and customizable compartments that make organizing gear easy. Even the smaller details feel thoughtfully designed.
Overall, this backpack gives off a premium, future-forward feel and stands out from typical camera bags. Very impressed so far and excited to travel with it.
This hand warming unit works great. It has multiple heat settings and additional attachments for wearing the bag in different situations. The phone holder allows for full functionality while still keeping things protected. Perfect for winter excursions into the wild.
First of all, the bag is exactly as advertised.
Customer service is excellent.
As an engineer, a drone operator and photographer this is thing is extremely well designed. I purchased one as a test and now i will be using it to use the case for telecommunication industry as it has so much potential and am buying more of this.
A suggestion to the design team, if the bag frame can have a carbon fiber option as well it will be even greater. since you have designed a pole already and am ordering one, the skeleton as carbon fiber will be a premium option for other use cases.
Very well done!!!!!!
I like how compact this setup feels compared with a full-size power station. The 100Wh battery is the biggest plus for me because it’s much easier to travel with and can be taken on flights. The modular design also makes sense if you carry camera gear, drones, or small devices that need charging on the go.
I’ve been using the Lancer100 for travel and short outdoor shoots, and it’s been really practical. The layout makes it easy to organize my camera gear, and the built-in power feature is super convenient when I’m away from outlets. I also like that it still feels manageable to carry around. Overall, a very smart setup for creators who need both storage and power on the go.
Like all Coalax products, this is an innovative solution to a typical problem...the ability to have rigid, hands-free equipment management especially for POV work. The "magic" part of the Magic Arm works well and the locking mechanisms are intuitive. The selfie sticks extend a long, long way! That said, I think Coalax might invest in a click-to-insert mechanism instead of having the consumer screw the arm in (or out) for use (don't lose those screws!). The click-lock system to adjust the arm in the Z plane could perhaps be a little more finely made. Perhaps lubricate the selfie-stick extensions just a little more. But overall, a great product.
Looks awesome!!! Just waiting to go hiking and do some landscaping pictures 🤩
The bag is great, i really love the idea of this.
The backpack is very durable, and protects my Drone and camera gear very well. I had had a wreck at around 35mph on my bike. The bag, as well as the power bank held up very well; none of my gear was damaged, and the bag prevented me from rolling when I hit the ground. There is more than enough space in the bag to fit all my gear and then some. This Bag feels like a great platform to modify and upgrade for my needs. If you're on the fence about buying it, I say send it and you won't regret it.
Beautiful backpack with enormous transformation possibilities, comfortable to carry on the shoulders and very functional. The ability to walk with a selfie stick attached is really useful. Very happy with the purchase.
The back pack is very durable, and protects my Drone and Camrea gear very well. There is more than enough space is the bag
Transcribing this review, on behalf of my wife, as this is the backpack I bought for her. The following will be a summary of asking my wife about her experience with it, from her pov, in no particular order:
* I had an issue with the top bag's inner clip strap getting in the way of trying to zip up the top lid.
* This is a bag that is clearly meant for hiking or adventures
* For someone 5'2" and 115 lbs, I consider this bag heavy even without anything in it
* The bag is very good. High quality.
* I like the amount of spacing available in it
* The options with the separators are overwhelming (I was not a Leggo kid, I was a Play-doh kid)
* I haven't found a particular use for the Magic telescopic hands... yet.
* Having taken footage from [my husband's] 5 year old camera attached to [his] Coalax 300, I think there is too much bounce when the arm is extended in front of you. So a camera with a high stabilizer is recommended.
* I can see why [my husband] bought this for adventures or a bug out bag.
Very amazing product! Saved me a bunch packing gear for photoshoots and the Power station comes in to save photoshoots charging equipment and everyones phones! Defintely worth the purchase!
Best Buy of my life
I bought the Lancer 300 Power Backpack for my boyfriend and he absolutely loves it. The built-in power station makes it easy for him to charge his devices on the go without carrying extra power banks. The backpack is sturdy, well-designed, and has plenty of space to keep everything organized. It’s perfect for travel, outdoor activities, and everyday use. Overall, it was a great purchase and an even better gift.
Bought it for corporate work in London. Used to have a few bags and lots of batteries, now just the Lancer 300. As it's the 300 , I cannot take it on planes, but I bought the front accessory bag which I interchange with the power pack . Overall, great. Solid frame, comfortable to have on your back even though it's slightly heavy.
The power bank will keep you flying for literally Days! The modular design and personal configuration makes it so easy to pack for different needs. Last but definitely not least the magic arm is perfect for 360 cam footage or a light once it gets dark! Love this pack!
Also I had a minor defect with my power bank and customer service was the best! I had a new one in a couple days!
Used mine the other cover and photograph a disc golf tournament. Carried my r6 and long lens well, the hip belt and rigid frame really make this a delight to walk with heavy gear. As an added bonus, the top drone box fits my 6lb Yorkie perfectly 😅
I spent about 1.5 months with the backpack before I decided to write this review so that I could give my practical summary of my experience with it.
Quick points: I used the bag WITH the attached 300 watt battery. It is ultimately destined as my bug out bag (Important documentations, camping tools, emergency supplies, etc) in case of a natural disaster, but to get a proper feel for its function and ergonomics, I have used it for day trips (serving as a mule) and hikes (carrying a partial list of my bug out bag supplies).
Pros:
1) Despite being heavy to lift after filling it with items, it feel noticeably lighter once it is properly strapped on to my back. I believe this is due to the single-frame body keeping the weight as close to your back as possible so you don't have to lean forward to counter the weight of items closer to the zipper openings (farther from the center of body alignment). It is a pleasant surprise as to how much "lighter" it ends up feeling once its properly strapped on your back.
2) The build of the varying storage bags are solid and of good quality. The solid single-frame is great.
3) The 300 watt battery is a beast.
4) The straps are plush.
5) The bottle holder, holds standard 20 oz sized bottles, but can be pretty tight if they are of the fatter designs.
6) Several males have asked me where I bought the bag or to look at the bag.
7) The telescopic arms make recording hikes a breeze, AS LONG, as you have a way to remote control the camera. Used it with my Insta 360 Go 2, but the mounting mechanism IS the wireless controller for the GO 2 camera....so yea....that made it a lot more difficult to take footage.
8) With the dividers, organization is a breeze as long as you have a method worked out.
Cons:
1) Not their fault, but looking at the videos, I had thought that I would be able to hold more items in the spaces provided. The carrying space ends up about 25% smaller than what I had expected.
2) I don't know if it was from shipping or the way it was packaged, but the top compartment (usually marketed as the drone bag), seems to have been compressed in a manner that the top cover overlaps the bottom frame structure of the bottom zipper point. This makes zipping open/close difficult, especially at the corners, unless the compartment is filled up completely to keep the top lid from overlapping with the bottom part of the zipper. I also found the inside buckle strap for the same compartment getting in the way of zipping it closed, often getting caught on the zipper.
3) I have been pretty unsuccessful trying to recharge the battery using daylight on a cloudy day (it is winter....so take it with a grain of salt) via my balcony and with their provided solar panel. On most attempts I haven't seen the percentage increase. But on one particular cloudy-ish winter day, despite the solar panel showing an orange light (indicating it has a positive charging ability), I came back 5 hours later to unplug it since it was now nighttime. When I checked the charge, my battery capacity had decreased by 2% (started at 11%, and it was at 9% when I checked back on it). Maybe it was the LED indicator lights that ended up using the battery? I am not sure. But I look forward to when I can try charging it with a good sunlight (spring is coming in)
4) Regarding the solar charging, I am disappointed that I can't leave the battery plugged into the solar panel and then leave the solar panel at a balcony or window to automatically charge when there is enough sunlight. Maybe it is a safety feature, but after a certain point in time of inactivity, you have to unplug and re-plug the power plug into the battery to restart the solar recharging process. I had thought I could leave it plugged in to the panel and then come back a few days later and find the battery pack mostly charged.
5) Despite the plush straps, the right one keeps cutting into my right collarbone. I am unsure as to why that is.
6) I wish there was a better solution for the backpack, in particular the battery pack, if there is rain. At this time, they provide a rain pouch for the whole bag, but it requires taking off the bag to reach into a slit that holds the rain pouch inside the main compartment area. Even then, you lose easy access to all of the panels except the one covered by your back and the waist strap pockets
7) Despite the venting on the back, it can still get sweaty, even during 2 degrees Celsius hike. It was the oddest thing having my front be cold, but then my back beginning to sweat during a hike. I chalk that up to the weight I was carrying making the backpack pull flat against my back, preventing air circulation.
8) Unless your camera has a good stabilizer OR you record footage using the Magic Arm going straight up, then you will realize that there is a LOT of bounce when you extend the stick and walk. I can say that my Insta 360 Go 2 on a fully horizontally extended wand for a selfie video recording ended up with a lot of video jitters.
